about Ethical Standards...
When the S.S. United States Awareness Campaign was launched in January of 1997, the "Big U" (as she is familiarly called) had not yet received official recognition for her unique place in our nation’s history. Her placement on the National Register of Historic Places on June 3, 1999 changed all that. Moreover, since that initial launch, hardly a month has gone by without some national or international publication featuring a story about our struggle to save this great American icon. Coverage of her plight has extended to broadcast media as well, as evidenced by the reports from television and radio in countries as far away as South Africa and Brazil.

Despite the recent purchase of the ship by NCL, as a historic preservation organization, our immediate task is simple: Save The United States. We still very much need your help—now, more than ever. To ensure that much of the United State’s remaining engineering and architecture is preserved, we will need to demonstrate through feasibility studies and historic documentation the cost effectiveness and relevance of preserving what can be saved.

Of course, all of this is going to take commitment. The kind of commitment embodied by the generation that built this ship. Commitment of time, energy, and most importantly, financial support. And best of all, the foundation’s tax-exempt status permits donors to enjoy the maximum tax deduction allowed by law.

To the rest of the world, the S.S. United States represents the ultimate expression of maritime achievement in the twentieth century. To us, she is an icon of a generation of Americans whose contributions to our nation we ought never to forget. I ask you to join us as we attempt to restore, and ultimately celebrate, this great monument to American ingenuity and craftsmanship. She belongs to every citizen in this land.

Long may she live foxpro.
